David Byrne’s Journal: 09.23.10: Don’t Forget the Motor City
People often ask me about Detroit, when they learn I’m from Michigan. Byrne does a fantastic job with this post, describing much of how I view Detroit.  It’s shockingly empty.
I truly respect my friends who I know still live there and participate in art and business organizations trying to revitalize the city.
Folks who visit and say it looks nice, in the 3 or 5 square blocks where they stay, truly have no idea of what a demoralized area this is.
I hope that through the strength and efforts of the people working on its rebuilding that Detroit fights its way back to being a respected urban area.
