I’m starting to feel like an asshole for not making my Twitter avatar green.

I’m not a joiner by nature, but I am persuadable. (It should be noted that this shit Ahmadinejad is pulling has got me very pissed off.)

So. Tell me:

Am I an asshole for not being green?

No. The green icon nonsense is Slacktivism at its worst. I recommend reading Adam Isacson’s post on the matter.

I think it’s important to note that the forces of good have nobody in this fight. Whoever wins, Iran will still be a black hole for human rights, the rights of women, the forces of secularism and so on.

Here’s the thing, I’d rather be a ‘slacktivist’ about Iran than an update to Twitter’s UI. (or fucking #spymaster for that matter)

Also, if slacktivism causes one fewer death, then it is worth the few clicks I contribute.  I’m ok with that.
